INESC-ID, is a not for profit, privately owned institution of public interest, dedicated to advanced research and development in the domains of electronics, telecommunications and information technologies.
The principal objectives of INESC-ID are to conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of information technology and to transfer technology to the industry by means of R&D contracts and training courses.
GAIPS (Intelligent Agents and Synthetic Characters Group) is a research group of INESC-ID, which aims to investigate the creation of intelligent characters that act in an autonomous way in complex, dynamic environments. By researching in areas such as intelligent learning environments, affective computing, virtual storytelling, computer based learning, Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and agent architectures, the group focuses its research and development into creating cutting edge technology in terms of intelligent believable creatures (virtual and robotics) used for educational contexts.
The group has more than 40 members (including six professors and two assistant professors) and another 20 post-grad students.
