Dr Helen Hastie is a Lecturer in the Interaction Lab at Heriot-Watt University Computer Science Department. Her research there focuses on building and evaluating spoken dialogue and multimodal systems.
She is currently coordinator of the FP7 EC project Parlance on interactive search (grant agreement no. 287615). In 2000, she held a Research Associate position at AT&T Research Labs, New Jersey, USA where she received two patents for her work on multi-modal city guides.
In 2003, she moved to work in the Artificial Intelligence lab at Lockheed Martin also in New Jersey, where she was a lead member of engineering. On returning to the UK in 2008, she held a Research Fellow position at the University of Edinburgh on a Scottish Enterprise funded project before coming to Heriot-Watt in October 2009.
