
Carlos Martinho
Carlos Martinho is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, where he coordinates a degree on Computer Science and Engineering and lectures on topics related to Interactive Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Creativity, and Experience-driven Interaction Design, with a special application to the domain of Digital Games. He is a Senior Researcher and vice-coordinator of the scientific area of Artificial Intelligence for People and Society (GAIPS) of Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento (INESC-ID) in Lisbon. He has been researching how Emotions and Machines can complement each other in the creation of personalised interactive experiences for the user, as well as support the creative design and development process of digital games. He has co-authored over 150 scientific papers on these subjects in peer-reviewed conferences and international journals, the book “Design e Desenvolvimento de Jogos” (FCA, 2014), the first book in Portugal discussing the theory of Game Design, supervised more than 120 Master and PhD students, and participated in more than a dozen international projects on serious games, two of them having received an international award.
